Prototyping

When prototyping, you have to expect a certain amount of rework, so I was actually quite pleased that these were the only problems I'd encountered. I revised the plans to address those issues, and resubmitted them to Trilogy.

The picture on the right is a view round the back of the first prototype. You can see the crank handle and the cam follower that moves the bird up and down. As the body moves the head and neck piece are given extra movement by a small section of gearing within the body.

As the design of the model progressed I looked at designing the packaging. With completed sample packaging I am in a position to do a little market research and see if I can work out what price point I am aiming for.

This is, again, a prototype. The idea being that the front cover is folded over with the instructions for construction printed on the inside. On the reverse of the pack the cover only reaches half way up the kit so that the prospective purchaser can see what they are buying. A cunning plan I think, but the parts will need re-laying out on the ply to maximize their aesthetic appeal :-)

So, back to the drawing board once more to re-lay and redesign.

More news as it comes...
