Designing Ewe Boat 1 :: 2 :: 3
Now at a late stage of preparation is our new model, "Ewe Boat" The final prototype is out being testing and rigorously examined!

The starting point for any model is the initial sketch, this model was based on an idea which appeared on a late night journey past Lake Bassenthwaite in the Lake District, UK. Where did the idea come from? Haven't a clue, I'm just grateful when the muse arrives!

The next stage is make up a rough prototype. With the Eweboat this was partly designed on the computer using Adobe Illustrator and partly with pieces of card and a ruler and pencil. Sometimes the old tools are still the best!

At this stage mechanism and movement are the important parts of the model. Notice that I haven't attempted to make the boat's prow, it's just a box with the sheep and oars attached.

So, how to drive the model... This stage involves a lot of looking, moving the model round, measuring and trying to visualise the mechanism in place at the bottom of the model.
